The Essex Caledonian Pipe Band are a Grade Four Band based in Chelmsford Essex England. The Band was formed in 1996 from two amalgamated Bands.
We compete in Pipe Band Competitions run by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association all over England and for the last three years in Belgium.
We have had some success both here and abroad.
We believe in teaching our own pipers and drummers and a considerable amount of our weekly practice is given over to teaching.
All age groups and many occupations are represented in the band.
We wear the Bruce Tartan with the St Andrews Badge and use Premier Drums.
The Band comprises approximately twenty-six playing members living in the Southend-on-Sea, Chelmsford, and, Colchester areas of the south east of England. Colchester is the oldest recorded town in the UK and there is a lot of tourist information about the area. London is aprox 40 mins by train and we have lots of contacts for Visits locally or to any part of the country.
We sponsor the Scotland in Colchester Pipe Band Competition where we get bands from Europe and UK competing. This year its on the 4th June 2000 but it would be a good start for a band for next year (2001) to come on over and see how we do things in good old England. We can arrange sensible hotel prices or we have accommodation with some of the band members themselves.
We would very much like to establish links with a Canadian or USA Band or would consider other countries with a view to arranging mutual visits to each others Country.
